Join for a Double Header of Portland's finest talent exploring nu jazz without limits!
Naked Moon is an exciting nu jazz trio and latest project from pianist Troll Hart, percussionist Daniel Surprenant, and bassist Mike Ewers. They explore compositions inspired by neo-soul, bebop, classical, and funk rock styles with eclectic and spontaneous improvisations. Each member is a force in their own right and together they deliver a sound as powerful as it. Featuring:
Troll Hart: Pianist mastermind behind Silent Temple, now following in the steps of the likes of Erroll Garner and Bill Evans, they are a compositional mind unlike any you are likely to hear.
Daniel Surprenant: Abstract sound artist and percussionist extraordinaire. Their command of odd meters and tricky grooves is only matched by their wild creativity.
Mike Ewers: Mercenary bassist for the likes of Silent Temple, Bodhi Mojo, and many more. Versed in extreme metal all the way to jazz ballads, he is unafraid to shred a 5-string bass when the moment strikes.
NEIGHBORS
Guitarist Mike Gamble, bassist Garrett Baxter, and drummer Machado Mijiga formed the band because, well, they're neighbors.
Neighbors is a "garage band," whose garage happens to be The Center For Sound, Light, and Color AKA Color Therapy Studios in the historic Alberta Arts District of Portland, OR.
Neighbors explores indie rock, pop, and folk through the lense of jazz improvisation, playing everything from through-composed compositions, to simple riffs, to co-written songs that span multiple genres and aesthetics. Neighbors writes and records new music every month—one month, the band performed 32 freshly written songs at a show in the span of two hours. Neighbors seems to bring neighborly music to neighborhoods around the world, one song at a time.
Notes on Seating: Jack London provides two options. Reserved Seating is purchased on a table-by-table basis in the central part of the venue and is only available for select shows. Seating in the General Admission section is limited, first come first served, and may be standing room only.
