Lilla
With her dynamic band and soulful originals, few modern performers embody class, presence, energy, and talent like Lilla does. At the age of 6, Lilla taught herself to play the piano by ear, and soon after she fell in love with gospel music. In high school, she toured the East Coast with the internationally recognized choir, Royal Blues. At the age of 16, Lilla joined a socially conscious hip-hop band along with Esperanza Spalding where their original songs pushed the boundaries of hip- hop and jazz. After providing guest vocals for a number of hip-hop, R&B and jazz notables, Lilla felt the call to produce an album of her own.
It's now an exciting time for the Portland, Oregon, native. Shortly after graduating from Berklee College of Music, the singer, bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist released her second self-produced album, The Awakening. Over the last year she has toured throughout the US, performing on festival main stages, as well as joining Allen Stone and Thievery Corporation as their tour opener. Lilla has recorded and performed with an impressive array of artists, including Annie Lennox, Trombone Shorty, Esperanza Spalding, Ciara, Damian & Stephen Marley, Talib Kweli, Willie Nelson, Mos Def, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Carole King, Kenny G, and more.
Writing, producing and performing her two full-length albums are some of Lilla's most remarkable accomplishments. Despite the challenges of creating truly original music, the end products are those of uncompromising dedication to music with integrity. Her latest album was recorded all over the map, from Bob Marley's studio (Tuff Gong) in Jamaica, to Kfar Saba, Israel. The Awakening is her testament to the power of music and its ability to connect musicians, culture and people from around the globe.
This down to earth, kindhearted young artist infuses her music with passion and soul. She generates an uplifting energy and she is active in her community. Through Lilla's music, education, environmental, and charity efforts, she is committed to make a positive impact in the world.
