SALAMI ROSE JOE LOUIS is a multi-instrumentalist female producer from California and a signee to Flying Lotus’s label Brainfeeder. Drawing influences from jazz, soul, hip-hop, pop, Shuggie Otis, Captain Beefheart, Stereolab, and R. Stevie Moore, she creates a blend of experimental dreamy sounds with jazz influenced vocals and keys.
The former climate scientist signed with Brainfeeder to release the highly acclaimed “Zdenka 2080” (2019) and “Chapters of Zdenka” (2020) and most recent (2023) “Akousmatikous” which featured Brijean (Ghostly International) and Soccer96 (a project from The Comet is Coming’s Danalogue and Betamax).
Drawing from her studies in planetary sciences, she creates an unique experience: exploring ideas of multiverses and climate change through the lens of a fictional post-apocalyptic keyboard-toting earthling with a flashlight, a can of cashews and a hopeful optimism.
“Zdenka 2080” was nominated for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards for best album of 2020. She had the honor of joining Flying Lotus’ Flamagra Tour, the Cinematic Orchestra’s European tour, Toro y Moi’s “Outer Peace Tour”, TuneYards US. tour and supported the likes of Clairo, MNDSGN, Homeshake, and Still Woozy. She was featured on Toro y Moi’s album, Mahal, and she did a remix Hiatus Kaiyote on Ninja Tune/Brainfeeder.
Her latest release "Sarah" with Flanafi is available on Bandcamp and features special guests Nazir Ebo drums, Tone Withfield on bass and Lenny Mobley on drums too.
OMARI JAZZ is a Portland based beat scientist. His latest release is the second volume of Reflections, Black Decelerant, as the duo of Khari Lucas, aka Contour, and Omari Jazz, exploring improvisational jazz traditions through contemporary tone and texture, fostering sonic meditations on themes of Black being and nonbeing, life and mourning, expansion and limitation, and the individual and collective. The Black Decelerant collaboration, and intention, creates space for listeners to be still, while providing a basis for a movement beyond “the moment.”
