Herbie Hancock’s soundtrack for Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 film Blow-Up is a mash-up of post-bop, modal jazz, lounge, surf music, rock n roll and psychedelia. Hancock deftly compliments Antonioni’s far-out imagery, serving up a colorful sonic document of 1960s counterculture.

Drummer/composer/arranger Matt Mayhall leads a septet of Portland’s finest improvisers in a faithful exploration of Hancock’s themes from the film, ranging from poignant and reflective to funky and upbeat...
