The Soulcoast Showcase is a vibrant and inclusive concert experience created for funk and soul enthusiasts. A one-of-a-kind showcase bringing together the finest indie funk musicians and indie soul musicians to the Pacific Northwest for a memorable night of music with a throwback sound.

The night begins with the host and selector, Waxvillain playing vinyl records from his personal collection. Joining him for Day 3 at the Jack London Revue will be Portland's own soul connoisseur and tastemaking DJ, Chris Nakayama. Waxvillain is known for playing and shining light on rare and obscure records and their creators. He runs a busy instagram/youtube channel showcasing interviews and vinyl digging discussions with the best in the biz (@waxvillain).

Series I of The Soulcoast Showcase features opening act features Lucky Brown and The Funkways Band delivering genre-bending funk music from a distant time. Brown enlisted his brothers from The Polyrhythmics to make up this original intense eight-piece instrumental band. All the way from Southern California, Andre Cruz & Chris Lujan and the Black Diamond Rhythm Band are traveling to the PNW to bring that true-school soul sound. Cruz and Lujan are known as a dynamic duo of the modern soul scene and have recently performed with Thee Sacred Souls, The Altons, and Lee Fields. Fresh off the release of their Debut LP, "Give Me The Real Thing," these two are a must-see act!

Funkways is an original rhythmic endeavor kicking up dust at the crossroads of primitive funk and vernacular jazz. Organized by composer Joel Ricci aka Lucky Brown, Funkways' mission is to commemorate, celebrate, and consecrate true soul music as played from the heart, and to engender cultural health by promoting greater neighborhood social cohesion. Recommended if you like funk and jazz giants such as James Brown, Fela, Mulatu Astatke, Dyke and the Blazers, Alhaji Kwabena Frimpong, and contemporary instrumental groups like Poets of Rhythm, Budos Band, Menahan Street Band, Karl Hector & The Malcouns, and Polyrhythmics.

Having already sold out of their first three 45 releases, and playing sold-out shows at legendary venues alongside the likes of Lee Fields and Thee Sacred Souls, Andre Cruz & Chris Lujan are bringing their own fire to the stage. Backed by The Black Diamond Rhythm Band, Cruz and Lujan bring a unique flavor with their fuzz heavy, groove-infused California soul. They will touch your heart with crooning, sweet soul and light up the dance floor with explosive funkiness. The band is the product of an inspired collaboration between vocalist/songwriter Andre Cruz and producer Chris Lujan. Cruz – an energetic, joyful performer with Donny Hathaway meets Stevie Wonder vocal stylings and Lujan, a fixture in the Bay Area soul/funk scene are backed by the Black Diamond Rhythm Band, which features members of some of the Bay Area’s best soul and funk bands. Be on the lookout for their upcoming LP, The Real Thing coming out this summer and their EP, Colors due by the end of the year.
